In the first conference game of the 2018 season for Gordon, the Highlanders traveled to Cuthbert, GA to face Andrew (8-11) on Saturday. Gordon State came out hot taking a 5-0 lead on the Tigers through five innings led by a strong performance at the plate by Freshman outfielder Jason Fointno leading the way offensively with two hits and two runs scored on the day including a stolen base. Freshmen Datren Bray (CF) and Ethan Darrow (DH) each added an RBI. West Georgia commit Taylor Boisclair continued his success on the mound for the Highlanders giving up two runs through seven innings. LHP Jonathan Robinson gave the Highlanders support out of the bullpen allowing two hits and a run through 1.2 innings of work. University of West Georgia commit Cory Bartholomew (RHP) entered the game with a 5-3 Gordon lead in the ninth inning and was able to evade a dangerous bases loaded situation with a strikeout to secure his second save of the season; giving the Highlanders their first conference win of the season with a 5-3 victory of Andrew.
Gordon States moves to 11-10 on the season with a solid start to conference play. The Highlanders face a bye week and will have a chance to prepare for conference opponent ABAC as the two teams will battle it out in a four-game series next week. Gordon still has a lot to prove but a 1-0 start in conference play is a huge positive as conference play gets rolling throughout the state of Georgia.
