BARNESVILLE, Ga. -- Pitcher Bailey Odom (Danville, Ga. / Bleckley Co. HS) pitched seven strong innings and the offense generated some early support for the freshman left-hander as Gordon State Softball took a 5-1 win over Cleveland State Community College (Tenn.) Saturday afternoon at the GSC Athletic Complex.
CSCC took the opener of the doubleheader by a 7-6 score.
Odom went the distance for her first win of the season and held CSCC scoreless until the top of the seventh when the Cougars pushed across their only run of the contest.
Odom allowed one run on six hits, struck out two, walked one and worked around three Highlanders' errors en route to the victory in the circle.
For her effort, Odom was named the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (NJCAA Region 17) Pitcher-of-the-Week for February 17, which marks the second week in a row a Highlander has earned this honor after Faith Hager (Conyers, Ga. / Heritage HS) was selected on February 10.
Shortstop Taylor McClendon (McDonough, Ga. / Ola HS) went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
Second baseman Breanna Lee (Concord, Ga. / Pike Co. HS) also went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI and a run scored.
First baseman Abby Foster (McDonough, Ga. / Ola HS) had a hit, 2 RBI and also reached base twice on walks.
In the opener, GSC jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead after two innings, but watch CSCC score four runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth to take a 7-2 lead.
GSC got a run back in the bottom of the fifth and added three in the sixth to make it a one-run game at 7-6.
But CSCC held on in the seventh to take the win.
McClendon went 3-for-5 with a double, two RBI and a run while Lee was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, two runs scored and an RBI.
First baseman Madison Powell (Roberta, Ga. / Taylor Co. HS) also went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI.

Southern Union completed a doubleheader sweep over GSC on February 2 in Barnesville by 4-2 and 8-7 scores.
