BARNESVILLE, Ga. -- Gordon State Softball pushed its win streak to six games as the Highlanders opened Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (NJCAA Region 17) play with a 3-0, 10-2 doubleheader sweep over Andrew College Tuesday afternoon at the GSC Athletic Complex.
Game 1 belonged primarily to pitcher Faith Hager (Conyers, Ga. / Heritage HS), who shut down the Andrew offense with a complete-game six-hitter while striking out seven and didn't walk a batter.
Hager is now 7-3 on the season.
Meanwhile, GSC broke through in the fourth inning with a pair of runs and added a solo run in the sixth.
Jordyn Dobson (McDonough, Ga. / Union Grove HS) went 2-for-3 with three RBI to lead the GSC offensive attack.
Makenzie English (Williamson, Ga. / Pike Co. HS), Madison Powell (Roberta, Ga. / Taylor Co. HS), Abby Foster (McDonough, Ga. / Ola HS), Claire Williams (Conyers, Ga. / Heritage HS) and Bailey Odom (Danville, Ga. / Bleckley Co. HS) each had a hit for the Highlanders.
Game 2 saw GSC jump out to a 4-1 lead after the first inning and the Highlanders added a five-run fourth inning to make it 9-1.
After Andrew (5-21, 0-2) got a run in the top of the fifth, GSC answered right back with a run to take the eight-run, five-inning victory.
English and Foster paced the GSC offense with two hits each while English scored three runs and Foster drove in a pair of runs.
Powell's hit came on a grand slam in the first inning to put GSC in front to stay.
Odom (2-2) went the distance in the circle for GSC, allowing nine hits and one unearned run while working out of some jams to preserve the Highlanders' sixth straight win.
GSC (9-9 overall, 2-0 GCAA) is right back on the field Friday as the Highlanders travel to Milledgeville to battle GCAA foe Georgia Military College in a doubleheader that begins at 4 p.m. ET.
