BARNESVILLE, Ga. – The Gordon State College softball team continued to maintain an impressive presence in the classroom as 14 student-athletes were honored on the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XVII All-Academic Team.

Despite having their season cut short on March 13 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, these Highlander student-athletes finished the spring semester strong by earning this honor for Region XVII – which represents the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) member institutions.

Sophomore Savannah Cook (Buchanan, Ga. / Carrollton HS), sophomore Camryn Currie (Marietta, Ga. / Hillgrove HS), sophomore Jordyn Dobson (McDonough, Ga. / Union Grove HS), sophomore Makenzie English (Williamson, Ga. / Pike Co. HS), redshirt freshman Abby Foster (McDonough, Ga. / Ola HS), freshman Faith Hager (Conyers, Ga. / Heritage HS), freshman Hailey Hooper (Monticello, Ga. / Piedmont Academy), redshirt sophomore Breanna Lee (Concord, Ga. / Pike Co. HS), sophomore Madison Powell (Roberta, Ga. / Taylor Co. HS), freshman Natalie Song (Catula, Ga. / Harris Co. HS) and freshman Mallory Watson (Jackson, Ga. / Jackson HS)  each earned the distinction of NJCAA Region XVIII All-Academic honors.

"I'm so incredibly proud of their academic success, especially during challenging times," GSC head coach Ally Hattermann said. "It says a lot about their character, work ethic and commitment. We have to give thanks to the Gordon State faculty, information technology staff, and Student Success Center for creating an online learning environment, which helped our student-athletes succeed."

GSC finished the abbreviated season with a 9-9 overall record, including 2-0 in Region XVII (GCAA) after a 3-0, 10-2 doubleheader sweep over Andrew College on March 10. Those two games were ultimately the final two contests of the 2020 season as the Highlanders finished on a six-game winning streak.
