Softball Drops Two
Lack of offensive production by the Highlanders allows South Georgia State College to take two GCAA games from Gordon State on Saturday.
DOUGLAS, GA -- Although both teams struggled offensively during a pitcher's duel, the Highlanders dropped two close GCAA games to the South Georgia State College Hawks on Saturday.
Game 1: SGSC 2 GSC 0
The Highlanders fell behind early and couldn't find their way back in a 2-0 loss in game 1 on Saturday. Maddie Green ("Junior") struggled early to find her control in the circle and the Hawks capitalized by scoring on a groundout in the first inning and then a sacrifice fly in the 3rd inning. Green settled in nicely but took the loss for the Highlanders. She threw six complete innings, allowing just four hits and two runs while striking out two. The Highlanders didn't get their first hit until Taylor Dykes singled in the top of the sixth inning.
Game 2: SGSC 1 GSC 0
Game two was much of the same as game one….a pitcher's duel between Maddie Greene ("Senior") and the Larren Carter/Sarah Smith combo of South Georgia. Offensively, the Highlanders managed to get their lead-off batter on base five out of the eight innings, but failed to produce a run. The South Georgia pitching duo held the Highlander bats to just four hits in game two. The Hawks scored their lone run during the bottom of the 8th inning of international tie breaker play when Tess Robins singled to left center field scoring Michaelin Thomas to win the game. Greene took the loss for Highlanders. She lasted seven and a third innings, scattering just five hits and zero earned runs while striking out five.
The Highlanders are back in GCAA action on Thursday at home versus Andrew College. The double header begins at 2:00 PM.
