Highlanders fall 3–1 to South Georgia State in tough test
Gordon State dropped a 3–1 decision at South Georgia State, a match that saw the Highlanders fight hard but come up short
The Highlanders entered the night knowing what was at stake — a showdown with South Georgia State that would play a major role in determining the conference's top seed heading into postseason play.
Both sides started brightly, creating early chances, but it was South Georgia who struck first midway through the opening half. Despite conceding, Gordon continued to press, looking for a response. That came shortly after when Georgia Fillingim finished off a clever through ball from Tatianna McCoy.
The match remained tightly contested through the remainder of the first half, South Georgia State added a third late after the Highlanders had pulled one back; In the second half as Gordon pushed numbers forward in search of an equalizer.
While the result didn't go their way, the Highlanders showed moments of quality and effort throughout the night, matching the conference leaders for large stretches of play.
The loss moves Gordon State to 7–3–1 on the season, while South Georgia strengthens its hold on the top conference position.
